ASANA
Standing Lotus Pose · Stha Padmasana
External Hip Rotation Knee Foundation
This is a challenging but fun pose for those who have sufficient external rotation of the hips for a very comfortable Lotus Pose. If you ever have knee discomfort this would be a pose to avoid. Starting from a seated Lotus Pose come forward to the Lion Pose position. Then explore ways to lift up to your balance. Because the balance is so fine, the and unique nature of each one of our bodies', this pose is probably best discovered through your own experimentations on how to lift and hold the body. Consider the various factors that will all affect the balance; how deep your lotus is, hip flexion, degree of spinal extension and flexion in each of the curves of the spine, arm position, and tilt of the head. If you get it but lose the balance, there is often not much you can do to regain your composure so instead just roll with it and plop comfortably back down to your seated lotus and a graceful swing of the arms forward to counter the weight and impact.
