Yogi's Love Their Vagus Nerve

Yoga from biological or physical perspective is all about breath and the vagus nerve response to deep breathing and some other techniques. The vagus nerve connects all our main organs through a channel in the middle of the body(but not the spine, even more middle) and when we activate it, all the systems of the body listen together to each other...And because our inner creates the reflection of our outer, having a model of co-existence, connection, awareness, and harmony inside of us helps us to learn to see these things in the world.

How to Activate Your Vagus Nerve

1. Breath slowly and deeply into your belly.

2. Get in the water, splash water on your face.

3. Hum, chant Om, talk or sing with deep breath behind your voice.

4. Promote healthy gut flora with probiotics and real whole foods and not too much sweets.

5. Be present and sensitive to your body sensations. Stimulate body awareness by gently stroking your features, ear, upper lip, or forehead, etc.  Or even better, get somebody else to do it for you! Hugs should do it too!

In other words... remember you are alive!

Vagus Nerve and Kundalini?

This nerve is sometimes considered to be the anatomical counterpart to the Sushumna nadi, the central channel in the yogic energetic body. This channel for energy has the role of leading us towards a special kind of experience, which unites the the many aspects of ourself into a single kind of experience or realization of self knowledge. This is sometimes called Kundalini awakening and is a very profound experience to ones' life. It is considered to be quite a rare phenomenon and also so powerful that it could be dangerous if it happens "full blast" without adequately preparing the physical, energetic, and mental structures to process the experience and it's relevance to our perspective of Self and Life. The way of preparation of course is yoga practice itself consisting essentially of yoga asana, breath awareness and control, as well as service oriented love and meditation.
